Peter
commenced drag racing in 1980 with a modified street
car which he ran for two years with a great deal of
success. He then moved into two wheeled drag racing
running in the SS/B class for some time. Soon after,
Peter moved into the Comp Bike ranks slotting his Kawasaki
into B/AB. He held the national record for the class
for some time before adding a turbo and moving into
B/CB.
Feeling the need for speed
grow even stronger, Peter moved up to run an injected
nitro-burning bike and became the first to ride such
a bike into the seven second zone in Australia.
The
opportunity then presented itself for Peter to team
up with Billy Curry and Peter built the chassis for
the 'Party Time' bike - Australia's first 6 second Top
Fuel Bike. This time was achieved at Calder Park at
the Nationals in 1992. In 1993, Peter ran the fastest
speed in Australia, a 6 second pass at 197.8 miles per
hour and became national champion. He also became one
of the six members of the world exclusive 'Six Second
Club'.
Peter
ended his partnership with Bill Curry and Pennzoil in
1994 and then decided to go it alone and build a new
bike. With a limited budget, parts and materials, he
began to assemble the bike on a 'pay as you go' basis
and the result is a state of the art top fuel bike.
The new top fuel bike started out as sketches on the
wall, a steel table and a plumb bob in the shed out
back. $130,000 later and we think the result is a pretty
good racing machine.
